Social Justice & DEI Workshops
Beyond the Social Justice Dogma
This workshop (or workshop series, TBD) will be about how to do social justice work (education, conversations, or just being a person who cares deeply about social justice) without perpetuating the "social justice dogma" (SJD). SJD is defined by my friend Sam as "The set of beliefs, stances, and acceptable actions laid down by the authorities within the social justice movement that we hold as incontrovertibly true." SJD takes many forms. If you're excited about this workshop then you likely can think of many of those forms already. It's voting people off the island of "people who care about social justice" because someone does or doesn't do a thing. It's never letting people onto the island if they've ever been problematic. It's having an island of "people who care about social justice" and thinking that everyone else who isn't on the island is "the problem." This program will break the first rule of social justice dogma, don't talk about social justice dogma. We're going to talk about it. And we're going to figure out how to move beyond it, together. |
